East Cape escape - March 2025

We had some time on our hands between sits and decided to take a trip around the East Cape .... anti clockwise. This would likely be our last adventure in the van, as we plan to sell it when we leave NZ in July.

We stayed the first night at a town hall in the Waioeka gorge. It rained, but we had good shelter up against the verandah.  There were some lovely apples on the trees in the yard.

Next stop Tolaga Bay. We stayed in the free camp spot down by the beach. James did a bit of metal detecting, we watch a horseback game similar to polo being played in the field and enjoyed the lovely beach.

Moving on to Tokamaru Bay we found a fantastic spot beachside and settled in to relax big style.

We found these cute signs at the playground in Hicks Bay.

Eventually, we made our way right round the Cape to Whanarua Bay, one of our favourite places on earth, where we settled into our friends' bach for a few days.
